The Trust’s responsibilities as a charity are: ‘To promote the restoration, improvement and permanent preservation of land and buildings of historic, industrial, environmental and agricultural interest for the benefit of the public.’

The Trust is not responsible for Basingwerk Abbey (which is the responsibility of Cadw, the Welsh Government’s historic environment service) or for St Winefride’s Well (which is the responsibility of the Diocese of Wrexham).

There are 9 places on the Trust Board (three are currently vacant) and the current board members are:
Ian Brebner | Chair
Ian has been a resident in Flintshire for over 40 years. His career as an architect has taken him across the world working in many different cultures, but always grounded and connected to home in North Wales.
Ian joined the Board in 2023 to help promote the future of Greenfield Valley and its connections to the broader community. He is a keen cyclist volunteering with SUSTRANS and a history enthusiast, currently the Chair of Northop Heritage Group.
Alun Jones | Treasurer
Alun has lived in the local area for over 25 years. His career has been spent working in the manufacturing sector, specifically in Finance and Senior management, and he hopes to use these skills to help deliver the aspirations for the Greenfield Valley. Having grown up in a South Wales mining community Alun is particularly interested in how former industrial sites can be regenerated for community use while retaining the history and the heritage of the area for future generations.
Alun has recently retired from a role that involved a significant amount of international travelling and is now looking forward to devoting time to his personal interests. He welcomes the opportunity to do so in support of the Greenfield Valley.
Conrad Jones
Conrad’s working career is based within the Hotel & Leisure industry, including major event planning, and the Higher Education Sector.
Conrad has been a Trustee at Greenfield Valley since 2019.
Martin Williams
With more than 25 years’ experience in the media and public relations, Martin cut his teeth at several newspaper titles including the North Wales Weekly News, Visitor series and Daily Post.
Martin, who grew up in Rhyl, then joined Wrexham University as Head of Communications before launching his own public relations agency – Radar PR.
His work has been published all over the UK and internationally, from The Daily Telegraph, The New York Post, The Sun, The Mirror and Sunday Times to Boxing Monthly, FourFourTwo magazine, and the NME, and he works closely with journalists and media partners across Wales and beyond.
With a passion for history and politics, Martin has been a regular visitor to Greenfield Valley all his life, latterly with his three children, and feels privileged to be part of the team helping to shape its bright future.
Brenda Harvey | Associate Trustee
Brenda has lived in Greenfield for nearly forty years. She has a background in town planning, regeneration and local government management. She has volunteered with national charities and, having joined the Board in 2019, is now taking the lead on the Valley’s Strategy work.
