Greenfield Valley Zones

In our ten year strategy we identify eleven zones in the Valley.

We will use these to make sure that all the areas of the Valley are included in plans for sympathetic maintenance or improvement works and promotion to local people and visitors.

The eleven Valley Zones are:

1. Holywell Gateway
2. St Winefride’s Halt
3. Three Mills
4. Meadow Mill
5. Wat’s Dyke
6. Flour Mill Pool
7. Lower Cotton Mill
8. Ancient Wood
9. Abbey Wire Mill Garden
10. Visitor Hub
11. Basingwerk

We intend that in ten years:
• The eleven different Valley Zones will be recognised, understood and appreciated by locals and visitors.
• Each of the Zones will have had at least one year of being a focus of attention by the Trust in its budget and planning.
• Each Zone will have a dedicated group of volunteers.

Valley Zones

3 year plan 2023 – 2026

Focusing attention on at least 3 Valley Zones. After the consultation period the Valley has been split into eleven zones. Although some of these zones require significantly more input than others, it is appropriate for all Zones to have received some individual focus during the ten years of the delivery of the Big Picture Strategy. To ensure this, at least three Zones need to have been looked at in the first 3-Year plan period.

• The initial focus of work on the Zones in this 3-Year Plan period will be on the Visitor Hub and Basingwerk Zones. Proposals for these zones have emerged from the work of external consultants. The speed and scale of progress depends on securing further external funding.

• During this 3-Year Plan period work will also be undertaken with partners in respect of potential future improvements and enhancements in the St Winefride’s Halt and Holywell Gateway Zones.

• A properly managed volunteer programme is to be developed in this 3-Year Plan period one aspect of this
programme is to develop volunteer groups for each of the zones.

Valley Zones

Year 1 targets

1. Draw up plans for future uses in the Basingwerk and Visitor Centre Zones
2. Liaise with St Winefride’s Well and other partners in respect of future plans for St Winefride’s Halt
3. Liaise with Holywell Town Council and other partners in respect of future plans for Holywell Gateway
4. Create volunteer groups for at least two of the Zones
5. Examine scope and finance required for the development of an enhanced railway and steam museum in the Lower Cotton Mill Zon
6. Draw up and progress plans to develop a fishing pool in the Meadow Mill Zone
