Fishing at Greenfield Valley

Greenfield Valley Trust are delighted to introduce community fishing at Meadow Mill Pool

This pool was originally created in 1787 at the same time as the Meadow Mill, the remains of which lie below the dam wall. The waters from the original pool fed three 20-foot diameter water wheels that powered the hammering and rolling machinery that worked copper and brass at the Mill.

Four fishing pegs have been initially installed thanks to support from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund. These are the first phase of a scheme which aims to create a path all-round the Meadow Mill Pool with eleven fishing pegs. It will be a number of years before the pool reaches the standard we are aiming for.

The Trust would like to thank those individual members of the local community who have worked with us on creating the Meadow Mill Community Fishing Pool. We continue to look for funding for the next steps and welcome further support from the local community.

The pool has been developed as a community fishing resource and priority is given to young people fishing. Adults supporting young people, including fishing alongside them, are welcome but solo adult anglers would be expected to make way if young people are waiting for a peg. All under 13s are to be accompanied by an adult.

All anglers MUST have to have a permit from the Greenfield Valley, Initially, these will be free.

Fishing Volunteers

Greenfield Valley are keen to develop a group of fishing volunteers to help manage Meadow Mill Pool as a community fishing facility, deliver events to promote community fishing activities and oversee the positive use of the pool.

Rules for the Meadow Mill Pool Area and Community Fishing Pool

Please treat all the users and visitors to this site with respect.
Be friendly and responsible and allow everyone to enjoy the peace and beauty of the area by using earphones on any portable audio devices and not causing any damage or disruption to the local environment or nearby structures. BBQs and fires are not allowed anywhere in the Valley including all locations around Meadow Mill Community Fishing Pool.
All litter to be taken home or placed in bins in the Valley.
Stay safe and don’t take risks near the water. Do not enter the water. No swimming is allowed. All the Valley pools can be treacherous, and swimming is not allowed anywhere in the Valley.
Meadow Mill Community Fishing Pool is being created for young people. Adults are welcome to come with young people to encourage and support them, including fishing alongside them. All under 13s are to be accompanied by an adult. However adults not accompanying a child are asked not to occupy a fishing peg if a young person wishes to fish.

Under national legislation, all anglers over the age of 13 must have a rod licence (available online from the Environment Agency at https://www.gov.uk/fishing-licences). These national licencing rules are enforced in Wales by Natural Resources Wales. Find out more here.
All anglers must also have a Greenfield Valley fishing permit. Permits can be obtained from the Greenfield Valley Visitor Centre. Further details can be found above.
Each angler is only allowed a maximum of 2 rods and no rods are to be left unattended at any time.
All anglers must have a landing net. No keep nets are allowed.
Barbless hooks to be used.
All fish caught must be returned to the pool. Fish should be handled as little as possible and placed gently back in the water.
Night fishing is not permitted.
