The Future of the Greenfield Valley

Our 10 year plan

Making the Valley the very best it can be.

In 2021 we started thinking about what should be done over the next 10 years to make the Valley the best it can be and preparing a strategy for the future.

What is the

Future of the Greenfield Valley?

Responsibility for planning the future for the Valley lies with the Greenfield Valley Trust. We are local volunteers working with Flintshire County Council.

We spoke to partner organisations interested in the Valley (such as Flintshire County Council, Holywell Town Council, Cadw, and Aura) and the wider Flintshire and North Wales areas (such as tourism organisations).

In 2021 we asked visitors and local residents for their views and 127 people responded.  58% of these were from Greenfield or Holywell.

What the public said in 2021

90% or more of the respondents agreed that we should:

  • Look after the Valley’s heritage and natural environments,
  • Use the Valley to provide quality experiences for local people,
  • Attract more tourists,
  • Treat the Welsh and English languages equally,
  • Invest in carbon neutrality, biodiversity and sustainability,
  • Raise funds through arranging more events, renting out spaces for private hire, creating new things to do and applying for grants,
  • Identify different zones in the Valley highlighting its variety

The full details of what people said can be found here.

What we did

Using these comments we produced a 10-year Big Picture Strategy.

Based on this strategy we now plan in detail what we are going to do every year and make an outline plan for the next 10 years.
