Finance

We are looking for someone to take the lead financial role on the Trust Board as Treasurer.  The Trust is delivering its ten year plan and seeks a finance expert who can support this whilst ensuring propriety and helping us develop a financially sustainable future.  The Trust has external accountants, uses Xero software and works closely with the staff using the Flintshire County Council financial systems.

Desirable –

Experience of organisational budget setting, monitoring and reporting

Oversight of the production of accounts by accountants

Knowledge of the financial requirements for charities

Experience of creating/operating a trading arm alongside a charity

Understanding of the delivery of external grant projects and programmes

Knowledge of local authority financial systems

Tourism

We are looking for someone to help us increase our income from tourism to support the provision of more events and facilities for the local community and to make the Valley financially sustainable.  . With a location close to the main holiday routes through Flintshire and with a lot of holiday accommodation already in the area, the board believes there is scope for the Greenfield Valley to significantly increase our visitor numbers.

Desirable –

Knowledge and experience of the tourism sector in north Wales.

Knowledge of how attractions can promote to new audiences and gain greater traction in existing markets.

Commercial knowledge and/or experience of running tourist facilities or venues.

Experience of managing multi-faceted tourist attractions or sites, particularly those catering for tourists and local communities.

Experience of tourism or destination marketing and promotion.

We are looking for someone to support the Trust board in matters requiring legal consideration.  The Board commissions external legal advice whenever it is required and would welcome a knowledgeable board member to help the board frame that commissioning and inform board discussions in relation to other matters with potential legal consequences. The Trust’s partner in the Valley (Flintshire County Council the landowner) is separately advised and there is a formal management agreement which sets out the relationship between the Trust and the local authority.

Desirable –

Expertise in legal matters in the charitable and /or public sectors

Experience of the legal issues arising around the operation of public open spaces and visitor attractions.

We are looking for someone who can support the Trust Board in ensuring that we fulfil our obligation to understand and protect the site’s historical importance whilst improving the Valley and delivering the objectives in our strategy. The Greenfield Valley is a location with an exceptional and complex history from Roman times to the present day. The Valley’s earthworks, archaeological finds, scheduled monuments, ruins and watercourses give testament to this rich history. The Trust recognises the value and importance of the understanding, protecting and interpreting this history and the sites that reveal it.

Desirable
A keen interest in the history of the Greenfield Valley and surrounding areas.

A background in historical research and interpretation for the public.

An understanding of the law and good practice in the protection and maintenance of historical sites.

Heritage services

We are looking for someone to support the Trust board in respect of the important heritage which the Trust is responsible, with our partner, the landowner Flintshire County Council. We work in partnership with Aura, a Community Benefit Society, which delivers Flintshire’s Heritage Services and oversees the Valleys museum and collections.  We also work closely with Cadw the Welsh Government’s historic environment service.  The Board would welcome a knowledgeable board member to help the board ensure that it delivers on its responsibilities to protect and enhance the Valley’s heritage whilst interpreting and explaining it for visitors.

Desirable –

A passion for history

Expertise in heritage, listed buildings, museums, collections management or other relevant disciplines

Knowledge of modern approaches to museum design, interpretation and community involvement.

Fundraising

We are looking for someone who can support the Trust’s aspiration to secure external support to enhance the Valley and provide the resources to make it more financially sustainable. The Greenfield Valley is diverse and provides a huge range of physical, social and environmental opportunities which means that a diverse range of funding opportunities exist.  As a charity the Trust works in partnership with the landowner, Flintshire County Council, and Aura, a Community Benefit Society which delivers Flintshire’s Heritage Services and oversees the Valleys museum and collections.  We also work closely with the Town Council, schools, local organisations, charities, and businesses. The Board would welcome a knowledgeable person to help the board ensure that opportunities to secure external funding are examined, appraised and, where appropriate, exploited.

Experience in the charitable funding sector
Knowledge of grant programmes, business sponsorship, focused campaigns, collections and legacies
Experience of grant applications and claims
Experience of programme and project management
